Packing begins

This morning we woke with the resolve of packing our belongings to return to London. After a slow start, it went well. For certain definitions of well, perhaps – we didn’t even start packing boxes, but did pack the GF’s suitcase for his brief trip to London next week, went for lunch and are now doing a few other things before – promise – completing the packing.

Last night we watched Lion. Or rather, the GF watched it, and I watched around the first third. This is the film based on a true story about an Indian streetchild adopted by an Australian couple who returns to India to search for his family. I stayed for the street child bit which was very good indeed, and quite unflinching and accurate. There were some genuinely terrifying moments, such as when the child gets stuck on a train, or when people come to sweep up streetchildren. The rest was probably going to be less to my taste, and I’m not a hugely keen on Dev Patel as an actor, so I went to bed.
